Araghchi: Europe should help stop US-Israeli war with Iran if it is concerned about peace

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says European countries should put pressure on the US and Israel to stop their war of aggression against Iran if these countries are concerned about peace and security in West Asia.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says European countries should put pressure on the US and Israel to stop their war of aggression against Iran if these countries are concerned about peace and security in West Asia.

Araghchi made the remarks on Wednesday night in a phone conversation with EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas. They discussed the ongoing US-Israeli war of aggression and its repercussions in the region and beyond.

The war began on February 28 when Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on his office in Tehran. Top military commanders and senior officials, including Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani have also been assassinated during the conflict.

Iran has responded powerfully to the ongoing US-Israeli airstrikes, which have hit infrastructure and civilian areas, by launching missile and drone attacks on American bases in regional countries as well as targets inside Israel. Iran has also maintained control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil is transferred, to increase pressure on the aggressors and its allies.

Araghchi told Kallas that the current situation in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz is the direct result of the war imposed by the United States on Iran. He also warned of the dangerous consequences of the US’s plots to drag other countries into its war against Iran.

“Disruption in shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the US-Israeli imposed war. If the European Union and European countries are concerned about peace and security in the region, they should exert pressure on the aggressors and stop their military aggression against the Iranian nation, instead of adopting irresponsible stances,” Foreign Minister Araghchi said.

He also referred to the US-Israeli attacks on residential sites including homes, hospitals, and schools, saying that all governments share the responsibility to condemn these crimes. He also said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to continue defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The top diplomat meanwhile criticized what he described as hypocritical stances by some European countries and senior EU officials about the US-Israeli aggression, emphasizing that any support or appeasement toward the law-breaking behavior of the two regimes amount to complicity in their crimes against the Iranian nation.

The EU foreign policy chief expressed her deep concern over security, humanitarian, and economic repercussions of the war, saying that the bloc calls for an immediate halt to the ongoing conflict.
